CBD Products: Effect & Dosage

CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol – a cannabinoid that is considered the second most abundant in the hemp plant after tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This is a natural substance that is obtained via complex extraction processes. But why is this new worldwide trend currently so interesting? We clarify – the current factual situation!

CBD Products

CBD oil is currently the most popular form of CBD-containing products and is offered in different concentrations. The extract from the hemp plant is dissolved in a carrier oil (usually high-quality hemp oil) and can be given directly under the tongue using a dropper.

CBD capsules are a good alternative for all users who find the taste of CBD oil too bitter. Here, the active ingredient is enclosed in the carrier medium in dissolved form and is also available in different dosages.

CBD animals is said to have the same beneficial effects on the body and psyche as in humans. The extract is administered in the form of CBD drops or special treats and pellets and, according to testimonials, can alleviate pain and anxiety in animals and aid in the treatment of skin conditions.

CBD cosmetics and ointments represent an exciting addition to the range of many manufacturers. Since our skin has so-called cannabinoid receptors, the CBD can also be absorbed by creams and co. For this reason, the products are especially recommended for people with skin diseases, such as acne and psoriasis.

CBD foods are now also offered in Germany by more and more manufacturers. Especially CBD fruit gums and CBD-containing drinks are in vogue and can supply the body with the sought-after active ingredient throughout the day.
CBD crystals are mainly used by experienced users, as they contain a high concentration of CBD and allow for versatile use. The crystals can be vaporized and inhaled or, like CBD oil, taken sublingually.
CBD flowers may not be sold to private individuals according to German law. However, online stores often advertise CBD flowers, as they are considered particularly pure and can be used against many ailments. However, it is not advisable to buy such products. Dealers who violate the ban face severe penalties.

CBD Effect

Hemp combines valuable ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, fiber, proteins and essential fatty acids. In addition, with the help of studies, it has been determined that the plant contains the following substances: Terpenes, Flavonoids, Cannabinol (CBN), Cannabigerol (CBG), Cannabichromene (CBC), Terpenes, Flavonoids, Cannabinol (CBN), Cannabigerol(CBG), Cannabichromene (CBC).
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of well over 100 cannabinoids known from the hemp plant to date. The current boom around CBD is explained by the fact that the hemp extract is said to have many positive properties. The mechanism of action of cannabidiol has not yet been fully researched. It is known that CBD does not have a psychoactive effect and therefore cannot produce intoxication when taken. It is also considered quite safe that cannabidiol has antispasmodic properties. Therefore, it is already used as a medicine against spasms in MS patients and in children suffering from a rare form of epilepsy. However, additional studies and research are needed to confirm the other pharmacological potentials that CBD has been said to have so far. Field reports from users, however, sound promising.
At the latest since the legalization of cannabis as medicine in Germany, hemp, a cultivated and medicinal plant originally from Asia, seems to be getting more attention again. This is not surprising, because the components of the cannabis plant contain a lot of valuable ingredients. Healthy as well as sick people therefore expect a positive effect on their own well-being or clinical picture from the cannabinoids, for example. But how exactly does the mode of action of cannabidiol work, how long does it take for CBD to take effect and for which ailments does it unfold its health-promoting effect?
How the potential effect of CBD develops
The active ingredient from the hemp plant is literally touted as a miracle and panacea. Many users make their personal experiences with CBD and describe how their complaints or symptoms of their diseases have improved. Studies are increasingly confirming the positive effects that can be seen in the users' testimonials: CBD is said to apparently improve one's sense of well-being and could provide relief from many ailments. What is the truth behind the effect of cannabidiol and how can it be explained?
The mechanism of action: How does CBDa become CBD?
Cannabidiol originally occurs in the cannabis plant as CBD carboxylic acid CBDa (a stands for the English acid) and is not yet fully effective in this form. Only through the process of activation, also called decarboxylation, e.g. by heating, a carbon dioxide molecule is split off from the cannabidiol acid. CBD is formed, with better potency.
If decarboxylation does not occur completely, parts of the CBD acid may remain and, it is assumed, show initial effects. This principle is also responsible for the mode of action of other cannabinoids, including tetrahydrocannabinol (THC from THCa). The actual effect of CBD is now explained by the fact that, as a phytocannabinoid*, it can influence the human endocannabinoid system** and is supposed to have either a reinforcing or blocking effect there.
What are the presumed effects of cannabidiol when ingested?
Non-psychoactive, or non-intoxicating CBD, is approved as a medicine and can be prescribed by a doctor. However, most users are increasingly turning to CBD products, which are classified as dietary supplements, to relieve their pain and to benefit from its purported healing effects. It is believed that the human body has receptors that interact with cannabinoids.
CBD is said to have the following properties: anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-anxiety, sedative, regulatory, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-anxiety, sedative, regulatory.

CBD Application

CBD is especially often recommended to pain patients because it is said to have analgesic properties. Since conventional drugs often cause severe side effects in pain therapy, CBD oil could expand the range of preparations. Animal studies and a 2016 Israeli study provide evidence that cannabis can help relieve pain. However, the study, which involved 274 subjects, used medical cannabis that also had the cannabinoid THC.
Extended states of stress can be detrimental to health by stressing the cardiovascular system and preventing much-needed sleep. As a result, sufferers are constantly in a tense state. CBD is used to counteract nervous conditions, sleep disorders and stress. It is said to calm and thus provide the necessary relaxation. Already in the eighties of the 20th century, a study was conducted for this purpose, which proved that the quality of sleep can be increased by CBD.
With the help of a study on mice, scientists were able to determine that CBD can help prevent diabetes. Accordingly, those animals that were overweight and received CBD in oil did not develop diabetes, unlike the comparison group. In another study, researchers observe that CBD can reduce autoimmune inflammatory processes in type 1 diabetes. CBD in ointment or cosmetics is popular among patients with atopic dermatitis and acne, as the ingredients care for stressed skin. In particular, the contained vitamin E could positively influence the course of the skin diseases. Under certain circumstances, the fat content of the skin can also be reduced, thus optimizing the skin's appearance.
More and more users also report positive effects of CBD in connection with:
Depression, back pain, migraine, rheumatism, arthritis, allergies, depression, back pain, migraine, rheumatism, arthritis, allergies.
Mode of action and dosage of CBD: is there a connection?
It is well known that people react quite differently to stimuli or their metabolism occurs at different rates. This means, for example, that food, medications as well as dietary supplements are broken down faster in the body of one person and slower in another. The potential effect of CBD products can also begin sooner or later. In addition, the CBD content is very different: There are, for example, CBD oil with 10% CBD, but also oils and other CBD-containing products with a lower or higher CBD concentration. This fact should be taken into account when dosing CBD and the dose should therefore be adjusted individually.
The following aspects, among others, can have an influence on the effectiveness of CBD oil and other CBD products:
The age and type of complaints
Individual expression of previous diseases
Body weight of the affected person
Frequency & regularity of use
Other diseases and medications
Personal genetic predispositions
Physical condition & environmental factors
CBD Dosage
The Brazilian Journal of Psychiatry published a study in 2019 that looked at the effects of CBD isolate. According to the study, the so-called dose-response curve is supposed to be bell-shaped. This means that the expression of the dose and the associated perception increases for a while before reaching its maximum, and then drops again.
The study focused on subjects who were subjected to a public simulated speech test. The study contributes to the view that therapeutic dosages need to be established, particularly for CBD isolate, so that research findings can also enrich clinical practice.
In addition, the findings provide evidence that when it comes to CBD dosing, a lot does not necessarily help a lot. This is especially interesting for users who increase their dosage again, even if they are satisfied with the effect result.
CBD: How much mg?
There is no dosage recommendation that will help every complaint and every person equally. Rather, it is a matter of finding out for yourself, as a user, how much mg of CBD will help improve symptoms. The following factors could influence the effectiveness of CBD oil:
Body weight
Type and severity of symptoms
Individual body chemistry
Sensitivity to herbal ingredients

Type and severity of complaints
Sensitivity to herbal ingredients
CBD oils: What percentage
CBD oil should ideally always be taken at the same time of day and over an extended period of time. However, the natural extract can also be helpful for acute complaints. To what extent an effect occurs depends, among other things, on the percentage in the CBD oil.
In order to dose correctly, it is also important to know how much CBD is contained in one drop of the oil.
One drop of 5% CBD oil contains about 1.67 mg of CBD
One drop of 15% CBD oil contains about 5.01 mg of CBD
One drop of 5% CBD oil contains about 1.67 mg of CBD
One drop of 15% CBD oil contains about 5.01 mg of CBD.

How is CBD taken?

CBD comes in numerous dosage forms. For example, the valuable extract can be ingested in the form of creams, capsules, edibles, crystals, e-liquids, and oils. CBD oil is one of the most popular forms of application, as the dosage can be easily adjusted and taking it on the go is no problem. Here, the sublingual intake has proven particularly successful, which is done as follows:
Stand in front of the mirror
Lift the tongue
Place a few drops directly under the tongue
Wait 1-2 minutes, then swallow
CBD oil for animals: dosage must be individualized
In addition to humans, other mammals, birds, fish and other animals also possess the so-called endocannabinoid system (ECS), which can interact with cannabidiol. Similar to humans, CBD is also said to have relaxing, pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects in animals.
For animals, a low dosage should also be started initially. For this, a CBD oil with 5-10% CBD is completely sufficient. If necessary, the concentration can be adjusted. The smaller the animal, the less CBD oil should be administered. At the beginning 1-2 drops are sufficient to check the tolerance. As with humans, it takes some time for a possible effect to develop. According to reports, many animals react to the CBD oil after 1 to 2 weeks. However, the type and severity of the symptoms play a role here.
The ideal dose for animals is reported to be 2 drops per 5 kg body weight.

What side effects can CBD oil have?

Conventional medications can cause a wide range of side effects. CBD, on the other hand, is considered to have few side effects. However, undesirable side effects cannot be completely ruled out. Thus, drowsiness, dizziness or a dry mouth feeling can occur in isolated cases. Diarrhea can also not be ruled out, as the digestive system must first get used to the CBD administration. People with low blood pressure should keep an eye on their values, as the intake of CBD can lower blood pressure.
